Donald  Trump was born into a wealthy family in New York City. He was a mediocre student but somehow graduated from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. He became a real estate developer in New York City. He famously paid over $400 million for the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, which was really worth only a small fraction  of that.

Although he created the Tour de Trump bicycle race in 1989, he ended up turning over the rights to Dupont the very next year. He tried to create his own airline, purchasing some of the assets of Eastern Airlines, but it too ended up in failure.

From 2004 to 2015, he produced and hosted the highly viewed TV series The Apprentice. 

He and his businesses have been involved in more than 4,000 legal actions, including six business bankruptcies.

In 2005, Donald Trump married Melania Knauss. They have one son, Barron. Trump also has four adult children from previous marriages: Donald Jr.,  Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany.  

Despite losing the popular vote, in 2016, he was elected to be the 45th President of the United States. He was not reelected in 2020, but threatened insurrection if he was not kept in power. 

He is the only American president not to follow the Constitution after losing an election and willingly turn over power to the lawful elected president.

In 2024, he was convicted of 34 felonies in the state of New York regarding falsifying business records. He also was found liable for sexually abusing the woman E. Jean  Carroll, and ordered to pay damages of $5 million. The judge said Trump was a rapist. He is the only president of the United States to have been impeached twice.

On November 5, 2024, he regained power with a win in the United States' presidential election, not even getting 50% of the national vote, but winning with the aid of the Electoral College, in a victory over the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris. Donald Trump is the nation's 47th elected president, inaugurated on January 20, 2025.
 

He is widely regarded by many academics and historians as one of the worst, most corrupt presidents in American history.
